Manage pop-ups with Firefox, save time and aggravation

Pop-ups can provide useful information, but many of these windows that appear automatically are distracting and waste your time as you close them.

Click the yellow bar for pop-up blocking options

In Firefox, pop-ups are automatically blocked, so you don't have to do anything to prevent them from appearing.

Override if needed

When a pop-up is blocked, Firefox alerts you via a yellow bar which appears near the top of the Web page. Click anywhere on the yellow toolbar, and choose to see the pop-up that was blocked or to allow pop-ups from that site.

Maintain a list of sites where pop-ups "allowed"

Preselect Web sites which should allow pop-up messagesTo preselect Web sites which Firefox should allow to display pop-ups:
  • Go to Tools > Options
  • Select Web Features from the column on your left
  • Select on Allowed Sites across from Block Pop-up Windows
  • Add or remove a site and select OK
    • To add a site: enter the URL of the site where pop-ups should be allowed (e.g. ibm.com) > "Allow" > OK
    • To remove a site: select a site from the list, and select "Remove site" > OK

Note: Adding a site like "ibm.com" to your list will allow popups for the entire ibm.com Web site
After you're finished, go to a site with pop-ups (like www.time.com) to see it work.
